Sovereignty of Parliament

Pakistan is a democratic state with a well-defined federal structure but unfortunately, the system of parliamentary democracy could not evolve accordingly in the last half and a quarter century. Politicians and the establishment got involved in a severe fight of interests, as both of them wanted to direct Pakistan according to their established political ideologies. it resulted in dysfunctional social and economic governance, unable to meet growing public demands of good governance and well-being of people.

The state of Pakistan faced such constraints in its political and economic development is a highly complex debate that has to be debated, but in a quick note the few points must be borne in mind before we can understand the dismal state of affairs of the country. It dates back to the 1950 and 1960 when power hungry bureaucrats and military took the advantage of bickerings of politicians of that time who failed to reconcile their respective issues amicably within the ambit of political system. Therefore the suppressors over shadow the political process and curbed the wings of democracy from very beginning. It is the reason why we lagged behind, our institutions lagged behind , from becoming truly democratic entities that serves the common Man instead of elites.

Pakistan with its tumults beginning envisioned a democratic system with a parliamentary model. but the absence of strong leadership forced it to struggle in its initial years to build consensus on a suitable constitution for the country but in vain as dividing forces were too strong and the uniting leadership role was missing thus, the country faced serious instability in governance. the democratic system also could not take its roots in the country due to the capture of elite vested interests in public offices through incapacity and propaganda of power-hungry groups.
