Nazim Jokhio Case; test of the civil society.

 

The killing of Nazim jokhio by the hands of powerful elites is a show of power and a clear prevalence of the feudalist mindset. Nazim was a symbol of resistance against those powerful elites who dominated the rural areas of Sindh and robbed the locals of their due rights which were guaranteed by the constitution of Pakistan. He simply protested against their unopposed misuse of power which threatened every aspect of the life of people and the environment, the foreign guests' uncontrolled hunting spree threatened the already endangered Hubra Bustards population which Nazim knew and that's why he come against them and protested and lost his life. A brave environmentalist indeed.

Further, if we look at the dismal role of the justice system and the criminal negligence of state machinery to prosecute the well-non criminals due to their influence is highly condemnable and provides the impression that powerful people can easily go away with the law and do whatever they want. Civil society and other segments of society must come forward in this regard and condemn the blatant misuse of power. the justice delayed is justice denied, so therefore courts should wind up the cases and convict the criminals. Sindh prosecutor general office should also play its due role instead of paying favors to elites and adding more miseries to the lives of victims' families. Pakistan Human rights Commission's appeal of becoming a party in court to pursue the case is the right step and the give up of the case by the wife of Nazim is clearly a matter of concern for the people as it shows how the poor are denied justice for which it has promised by the constitution, failing in this respect would erode already diminishing trust of people from our justice system. so it is the high time to speed up the process of justice generally and more specifically in the case of Nazim jokhio's Murder because it's not the murder of a person, its murder of the justice and freedom.
